Minimally Invasive Surgical Procedures

Santa Clarita Animal Hospital is now performing endoscopy and laparoscopy. Endoscopy is a technique for performing procedures through natural openings in the body or through one or more tiny holes, rather than through large incisions.

An endoscope inserted in the body magnifies internal structures on a monitor for thorough examination. Through the same opening or through additional small incisions surgical instruments may be used.

By performing procedures endoscopically veterinarians offer patients less pain, minimal recovery time and fewer complications. In many cases, performing a procedure endoscopically allows for it to be done as an outpatient procedure. A less painful and traumatic alternative for both the patient and the owner.

Laparascopic Spay

A revolutionary technique for spaying female cats and dogs. Performed through two small incisions in the abdomen rather than a large one. A less painful, faster healing alternative to traditional spays.

Otoscopy

Endoscopy of the external and middle ear. One of the most common applications of endoscopy in veterinary medicine. This allows for safe and thorough cleaning and visualization of the ear and ear drum, removal of foreign objects and diagnostic sampling.

Rhinoscopy

Thorough examination of the nasal cavity commonly indicated in patients with chronic nasal discharge, nasal obstructions, bleeding, acute sneezing and abnormal radiographic findings.

Bronchoscopy

Endoscopy of the upper and lower airways for visual examination of the respiratory tract to identify abnormalities, collect samples, identify and remove foreign bodies and biopsy lesions or masses.

Gastropexy

A surgery performed in at risk canine patients to prevent the twisting of the stomach which is a life threatening emergency. The stomach is sutured to the body wall in order to prevent this twisting. Gastropexy is often times done at the same time as a laparascopic spay.

Vaginoscopy

Endoscopic examination of the vagina. Usually indicated with cases of vaginal discharge, bleeding masses, trauma, incontinence, foreign body removal and difficulty urinating.

Gastrointestinal(GI) Endoscopy

Procedure fro the exploration of the stomach and intestines. A partial list of indications include regurgitation, salivation, vomiting, blood in the stool, anorexia, diarrhea, weight loss. This technique is most commonly used fro obtaining biopsies and the removal of foreign bodies.
